World Environment Day 2025
Date: 5th June 2025
World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5th, is a global call to action for protecting our planet. The theme for this year 2025, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” urges individuals, communities, and organizations to take meaningful steps in reducing plastic waste and embracing sustainable living. Plastic pollution harms life on land and in water, posing serious threats to both humans and wildlife. On land, plastic clogs drainage systems, leading to waterlogging and increased risk of disease. In water bodies, marine animals often mistake plastic for food, causing injury or death. These plastics can infiltrate our food chain, affecting human health. Since plastic does not decompose, it remains in the environment for hundreds of years, continuously damaging ecosystems and polluting our surroundings.
The theme not only raises awareness but encourages everyone to shift towards long-term solutions such as recycling, reusing, and adopting alternatives.
World Environment Day – Eka Infra style
At Eka Infra, World Environment Day is more than a symbolic practice, it is an opportunity to educate, reflect and inspire collective action among our team. As part of our initiative, we shared a powerful documentary “The Story of Plastic” which traces the entire full lifecycle of plastic, from fossil fuel extraction to its disposal. The film not only revealed the environmental impacts of plastic but also highlighted the social injustices deeply intertwined with the global plastic crisis and why it continues to persist.
Following the screening, we engaged in thoughtful discussion among the team members. The documentary prompted many to question long-held beliefs about recycling and plastic use. We explored critical questions such as: “Did the film challenge any assumptions you previously held about plastic” and “where does the responsibility for a solution truly lie: with governments, corporations, or consumers” Additionally, the team also went the Socratic route and pondered deeper questions about “Why do we continue harmful habits when we know better? Does the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ effect influence how we view waste and pollution? “Can the plastic crisis be solved without a cultural shift in values?” These conversations were aimed at inculcating a deeper understanding of the broader consequences of plastic waste and emphasizing how even small behavioural changes can lead to meaningful progress and impact.
Along with in-office ruminations, at a project site, World Environment Day was celebrated with a thoughtful plantation drive, where the team gathered to plant saplings, promoting both environmental awareness and team spirit. (images below)
Our Commitment
As part of our commitment and a decisive step towards sustainable practices Eka Infra has mandated a complete ban on the use of plastic bottles and containers at both our corporate and site offices promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives. This policy not only contributes to environmental health but also supports the well-being of individuals. Our efforts go beyond one day of observance, we aim to integrate sustainability into the core of our operations, inspiring a culture of conscious choices and lasting impact.
