Roads That Last

Challenge:

A key access road carrying heavy industrial traffic as well as daily village commuters had become a chronic source of dust, community unrest, and costly disruptions to logistics. Despite repeated maintenance and investments in dust suppression measures, the road deteriorated within months under constant heavy loads. Poor drainage, inadequate camber, and the absence of an alternative route for traffic diversion compounded the challenge, making it difficult to repair the road without affecting ongoing operations. The road damages had led to heavy loss to the client in terms of the cost incurred for the frequent repair of the road and time / productivity lost due to the bad condition of the road.

Solution:

The Eka Infra team began by conducting a detailed level survey to assess layer thickness and identify damaged stretches and potholes. The pavement structure was redesigned by replacing the earlier granular sub-base with Wet Mix Macadam to achieve higher strength and stability. Predesigned bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete layers were applied to create a uniform, durable surface. Strict quality control was maintained at every stage through routine testing of raw materials, monitoring compaction, verifying mix gradation and maintaining the specified temperature as per standards. The project was completed at a total cost of INR 64 lakhs, which was well below the allocated budget. The savings were used to rehabilitate an additional two kilometres of adjoining roadway.

Impact:

The upgraded road performed reliably for more than two years under continuous heavy industrial traffic without the need for major maintenance. This reduced recurring repair costs, improved operational efficiency and resolved dust and drainage issues that had previously caused community dissatisfaction. The outcome was a longer lasting and cost-effective road that supported uninterrupted movement of vehicles and restored confidence among all stakeholders.
