The World Environment Day (WED) was established by United Nations General Assembly in 1972, to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment. It encourages actions by governments, industries, community groups and individuals to improve the environment in which we live. It is celebrated worldwide, on 5th June, every year to raise awareness on environment and mobilise action for environment protection.

This year World Environment Day 2024 was celebrated with a focus on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.
